Irene Neuwirth in the New York Times

Nice to be in NY and open up our NY Times and see this Irene Neuwirth necklace. Looking forward to this and other goodies when you visit in Dallas Irene!

8-9-10: Jenny Birge, The Girl Scouts of Northeast Dallas, Kroger & Frito Lay Rock it for the North Texas Food Bank and the Kipp Truth Academy of North Texas

There is no one like my good friend Jenny Birge (and that is with a ' over the e which I just can't seem to manage. Jenny has been a tireless advocate for women and children, and has supported our efforts in a major way for Food4Kids on behalf of the North Texas Food Bank. Jenny has been working all year on her 50th birthday, August 9. That's 8-9-10, and to celebrate she has gained the support of Kroger and Frito Lay (where she works) to launch a massive community service project, challenging the Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas to step up to the plate to feed the hungry and fight illiteracy. The Project, 8-9-10, launches on Jenny's birthday amidst a flurry of media attention, and here's how it goes:

■■ Every Girl Scout will collect 8 cans of food
■■ Every Girl Scout will collect 9 gently used or new books
■■ Every Girl Scout will identify and complete her “Perfect 10” in community service which could be 10 community service hours, a $10 donation, or 10 other wonderful somethings.

New 8-9-10 patches will be awarded to those Girl Scouts who meet the challenge.

Starting Monday the 9th, Dallas will be a Girl Scout explosion of food and books and good deeds, and it's all because of Jenny Birge (with a '). The Girl Scouts can donate the food and books where they want; Jenny has identified two worthy Dallas organizations: The North Texas Food Bank and Kipp Truth Academy of South Dallas.

Wish there were more Jenny Birge's (with an ') in the world. You go Jenny go!!!!!

Hugs, Joanne
