Lunch in Toronto....

Yesterday, I had lunch in Toronto with my fashionista friend who picked me up in her cool convertible (unfortunately, top up) for lunch....then whisked me back to the airport, where I shopped the maple syrups and scooted through customs for my flight back to Dallas.....whew!!!
Thanks for lunch! Next time, I need to stay longer...those antique shops we passed were way cool, and Toronto is a beautiful city.....

A Garden Grows in the Heart of Dallas......

Some old and dear friends (and I mean old as in, we have known them forever, because they are not old) invited us for dinner and we were just knocked out. I mean, he is a SURGEON, and has this garden and is growing EVERYTHING, and then they plucked and picked and seasoned and cooked and Wow! We have just never, never had a dinner like this. Takes the word "home cooking" to another dimension altogether. I had to take a bag of that basil as a party favor...and just couldn't stay away from the okra, caprese with pesto, eggplant and squash. I am sworn to secrecy where this magic garden is, because someone might just pay a moonlight visit and grab some green. And do you see those hands? Those are surgeon's hands...yes, our friend is as deft with a kitchen knife as he is with a scalpel. Bravo, Jim and Cynthia!!!

While we were gone.....

Nothing snaps you out of a vacation mentality more than getting back to business and seeing so many new collections arrive. We were so excited to see the new Gurhan and the new pearl collection from Ten Thousand Things...

This Land is your Land.....

OK, by now you know I am obsessed with pictures from the plane. I just couldn't resist sharing these. There is one part of flying which is still a wonder, and that is looking down.....(makes it all worth the mechanical delays, non-reclining seat, bad food, more delays and all the other annoyances)...

Mountain Sledding? Yes. Paragliding? No

Let's just say that as parents, we had our limits. OK to the mountain biking, ok to the mountain sledding, but the paragliding? No way. (And that goes for you, Charles....)

R & R in Jackson Hole

We had a brief respite from the Dallas heat, heading to Jackson Hole (as in Wyoming, yeeee-ha!!!). Truth be told, I did absolutely N O T H I N G.....and it felt great!

Irene Neuwirth Named CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist

I was all "a-twitter" to get a late night phone call Monday from Irene Neuwirth, who was relaxing in Mexico when she got THE CALL, that she had been named a finalist in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Competition. (The previous week, she confided that there were so many applicants, there was no way she would make the cut, right). This is HUGE....The Vogue Fashion Fund, set up in 2003, offers a big cash prize of $200,000 to the winner and $50,000 to the two runners-up, to develop their businesses. The formal announcement was released the next morning, and all hell has broken loose at her studio to get ready for the interviews and photo shoots....for November Vogue, naturally.
We could not be more excited, for Irene is a talent and we just LOVE her things. Luckily, we had already scheduled her Personal Appearance and Trunk Show September 11 and 12 (Save the Dates), and just cannot wait!!! Irene, you go girl!!!!!!!

Happy Bastille Day

Please forgive the lateness of my post; we were traveling....Happy Belated Bastille Day...to my French husband and baby-duck (who claims to be part French since she speaks the part) and to our French friend, Catherine Michiels, who was in Paris to see this parade.

We Welcome Heather Moore....

We are soooooooooooo excited to finally have this new collection of Heather Moore. The possibilities for stamping her recycled sterling and gold metals are endless. Names, dates, places, mantras, you name it, she will stamp it. Check it out and start your own collection now. Our staff has gotten up to speed in a flash and can help you with any questions or custom stamping challenges.

More George Michael....

George Michael in Concert.....

We will never know why it took George Michael 17 years to get back to doing concerts, but believe me, it was worth the wait. The crowd went wild (I could have done without the screamer behind me ALL THROUGH THE CONCERT YELLING "I LOVE YOU GEORGE") and we ran into tons of Dallas friends. My advice? Grab a ticket now....he is playing in New York, Philly and who knows where else. This was a GREAT concert! (From last week, sorry about the lateness of the post, but we have been vacationing...They took my camera, but my IPhone came through in a pinch....)

Every Day is Mothers Day.....

This pair of cute faces lit up my day....and made me want to grab my own kiddo who is coming back from camp at the crack of dawn tomorrow.....

Homeward Bound.....

Just couldn't resist this shot on the way home....and yes, it was a little bumpy....

The Healthy Side of California....

OK, in between the birthday cake, and birthday custard, and birthday sorbet and birthday tiramisu, there were a few healthy options.....

Living La Vida Loca in LA.....

My sister had one of those significant birthdays, and how best to celebrate but to treat her to a couple of days in my fave city, LA, where she has never visited. Laura had fun on the street with the Red Bull girls....and we had a wonderful visit with Cathy Waterman, Irene Neuwirth (not shown) and Catherine Michiels. Add shopping and eating. And eating. And eating.....and I think it's time to start exercising....all in all, a great trip. Let me know if you need some restaurant ideas...we never met a meal we didn't love...

Catherine Michiels: Pile it On.....

No one knows how to put it together more than my friend, who has the most delicious collection of Catherine Michiels in a rainbow of colors, today being Le Petit Marcel, Assam and the Sundar Pendant. Very cool, or hot...take your choice.

A New Restaurant in Dallas: Rise 1

Hedda Dowd and partner have opened a "Salon de Souffle" and it is a WOW on my list. I took a friend to lunch (pics above) and was so impressed with the authenticity of the French cooking (or so I thought) that I took Charles to get a second opinion. Yep...real French food and a charming spot. From Salad Nicoise to Chocolate Souffle, it is a charmer. Yummmm...just thought I would pass it on.

This Just In: Paris Collections....

From Messrs. Givenchy and Lacroix, I am getting the message that coordinating legs are going to be hot this Fall...pass it on, girlfriend!

Fourth of July in the Big, Big City.....

What's a girl to do in New York City over the Fourth of July, when her friend visits from Washington? Why, it's Alysa and Francine on the town...Coney Island for the infamous hot dog eating contest and a trip to Dylan's Candy for a sugar shock....sweet!!!
