Last year I blogged about The Capitol Hotel's home baked cheese straws and just couldn't wait to order some more. But alas! when I called, the person at the other end of the phone said he had never heard of them and that the kitchen was under new management. Woe was me. But wait! There's more! Room service suggested I try the "buttered, salted soybeans" or the spiced pecans. Just decided on both. Well those soybeans turned out to be heavenly edamame and those pecans? Why the most perfectly salted with a touch of sweetness and roasting. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuum....
Wondering how long I can hold off before ordering those home baked cheese straws....yum!!!!
It was a long day and I was most excited to have Jake call and ask if he and friend Justin could plan, shop and cook dinner Friday night. These guys nailed it. Steak, marinated chicken, potatoes and onions with 'camp sauce' and green beans with almonds. The drink of choice? Why it's non-alcoholic sparkling 'wine' to celebrate August. Yum. They even cleared and did the dishes. Encore guys?

We spent a great afternoon in NY in amazing weather. Ran into friends Karen (of Neimans) & Alan Katz on Madison. Caught a wedding outside the Plaza (couldn't even estimate how many guests, all in black, black, black, a true New York moment). And on the top floor of Bergdorf Goodman, walked right into a throwback moment to 1980, when I was wedding dress shopping with Charles. Some things never change. There is still a manniquin to the left of the bridal department door, and yes, I bought the dress (all hand beaded) off the mannequin, which I scored for $300 at the time. Memory Lane is always a sweet ride.
We are thrilled to introduce Pippo Perez, an Italian designer (remember those red driving shoes from an earlier blog????) who does the most incredible micro set diamonds in 18 karat gold. The angel wings "articulate" (yes, they do move a bit). You won't believe the workmanship and detail. We were captivated by this designer who comes from a family of jewelry designers, including his father who made the ring that Joe DiMaggio gave Marilyn Monroe when they wed. Check it out....Amazing!
